Getting Started with dewDrive

Follow this guide to initialize your first Secure Vault, connect cloud storage, and configure automated snapshot schedules.

Step 1: Install the Desktop Cockpit

Download and install the native dewDrive desktop client for your operating system. The client includes self-contained, sandboxed Restic and Kopia binary engines.

Step 2: Create a Secure Vault

Launch dewDrive, click Create Secure Vault, and choose your preferred destination:

  • Local / NAS: Choose a path on your internal NVMe or mounted network share.
  • Amazon S3 / Wasabi / B2: Enter your S3 Endpoint, Bucket Name, Access Key, and Secret Key.

Step 3: Set Your Vault Encryption Password

Choose a strong vault password. This password derives your master AES-256 / Poly1305 encryption key.

Important Zero-Knowledge Notice: dewDrive does not store your master vault password on any central server. If you lose your password, your encrypted data cannot be recovered.
