Disaster Recovery with dewRewind

How dewRewind provides Time Machine style visual card-stack file restore, point-in-time snapshot recovery, and cryptographic Merkle tree integrity verification.
dewRewind is dewDrive's dedicated disaster recovery cockpit GUI. While the primary Ingestion Agent focuses on continuous background data protection, dewRewind is purpose-built for fast, intuitive point-in-time restoration.
1. Time Machine Style Visual Restoration
dewRewind introduces a multi-dimensional snapshot browser that organizes historical backups into a visual card stack:
- Point-in-Time Traversal: Slide backwards through time across hourly, daily, and weekly snapshots.
- Granular File Picker: Browse directory hierarchies at exact past timestamps without mounting entire disk images.
- Side-by-Side Diffing: Compare current local file states against historical snapshots to inspect modifications before confirming overwrite.
2. Cryptographic Integrity & Merkle Trees
Every snapshot in dewDrive is represented as an immutable directed acyclic graph (DAG) or Merkle tree:
Snapshot Root Hash (SHA-256)
│
┌────┴────┐
▼ ▼
Tree Node Tree Node
│ │
┌─┴─┐ ┌─┴─┐
▼ ▼ ▼ ▼
Blob Blob Blob Blob (AES-256-CTR / Poly1305 Encrypted)
- Tamper Detection: If any block in your Secure Vault is corrupted by bitrot or malicious modification, the cryptographic tree hash mismatch is caught immediately before restore.
- Selective Extraction: dewRewind fetches only the precise chunks needed for your requested files, saving network bandwidth and enabling sub-second restores for individual documents.
