Developer onboarding guide for dewDrive engineers. Covers Node.js 26+ runtime invariants, Cargo workspace compilation, pnpm, Nx orchestration, and test suites.

Welcome to the dewDrive engineering team. This guide details setup procedures, toolchain requirements, and common developer workflows across the monorepo.

1. Toolchain Prerequisites

dewDrive operates under strict zero-stub, high-performance platform invariants:

  • Node.js: v26.x+ (Mandatory runtime per Workspace Rule 10; zero legacy polyfills)
  • Package Manager: pnpm (v9.0.0+)
  • Rust Toolchain: 1.80+ Stable (cargo, rustc, clippy, rustfmt)
  • Tauri Prerequisites:
    • macOS: Xcode Command Line Tools (xcode-select --install)
    • Windows: Microsoft Visual Studio C++ Build Tools with Windows 10/11 SDK
    • Linux: libwebkit2gtk-4.1-dev, build-essential, curl, wget, file, libxdo-dev, libssl-dev, libayatana-appindicator3-dev, librsvg2-dev

2. Initial Setup

  1. Clone the repository:

    git clone git@github.com:dewdrive/dewDrive.git
cd dewDrive

  2. Install Node.js dependencies:

    pnpm install --frozen-lockfile

  3. Generate TypeScript Models from Rust Types & Protobufs:

    pnpm run ts-rs-gen

    (This builds Protobuf schemas and compiles shared models between the Rust daemons and TypeScript consoles).

  4. Verify Toolchain Health:

    cargo check --workspace
pnpm run typecheck

3. Development Commands

All applications are orchestrated through Nx and Cargo workspaces:

4. Quality Contracts & Testing

Before committing code, verify full workspace compliance:
